School/Applied Child Psychology (PhD)

Program Description

The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in School/Applied Child Psychology offered by the Department of Educational & Counselling Psychology in the Faculty of Education is a research-intensive program that emphasizes advanced and thought-provoking learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in research synthesis, original thinking, and problem identification to pursue professional opportunities in academia or industry.

Unique Program Features

  • The program prepares the next generation of school psychologists to provide state of the art educational and mental health services to children and adolescents from birth to 21 years old;
  • The program utilizes the scientist-practitioner training model, research supports and improves our clinical activities; and clinical activities support and inspire our research;
  • Students benefit from access to the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Psychoeducational and Counselling Clinic and the Departmental Assessment Materials Resource Centre;
  • Course work, clinical experiences, field and community service, and research activities are designed to enhance and develop the professional skills and the knowledge base of students. The development of clinical skills takes place through intensive assessment courses, a Clinic Practicum, Field Placement, and a full-year Internship;
  • The program is accredited by the Order of Psychologists of Quebec (OPQ) and the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA).

University-Level Admission Requirements

  • An eligible Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA out of a possible 4.0 GPA
  • English-language proficiency
