Biography:

Dr. Maria Cortes is a neuroradiologist and neurointerventional radiologist working at Â鶹ԼÅÄ since 2008. She completed her radiology training at Fundacion SantaFe in Bogota, Colombia, and came to Canada in 2001 to do two fellowships in Diagnostic Neuroradiology at the University of British Columbia.ÌýThis decisive experience led her to move to Montreal in 2004 to do an interventional fellowship at The Neuro, where she was later appointed as a staff neuroradiologist.

Dr. Cortes practices both diagnostic and therapeutic neuroradiology. Her busy clinical responsibility covers stroke and neurovascular cases at the MUHC. She is part of the mentorship program at the Faculty of Medicine of Â鶹ԼÅÄ and as an Associate Professor in radiology, neurosurgery and neurology, she teaches at both pre- and postgraduate levels.

She has been involved as chair of the Medical Evaluation Committee of the MNH since 2013 and leads the quality and assessment activities for the neuroradiology section of the department. This has inspired her most recent clinical papers on the role ofÌýradiologists as quality-assurance allies for other clinical departments. During 2019, she was president of the Quebec Radiology Society (SRQ) where she helped organize the academic activities for CME of the Quebec members.

Her main research interests are related to her clinical practice with the main focus on brain aneurysms recanalization after endovascular treatment, first pass recanalization of occluded large intracranial vessels, and other procedures.
