Lysandre Champagne, a PhD student in Sociology at Â鶹ԼÅÄ, is interested in the recognition of skills and talent in relation to gender in Montreal's artistic community. Favoring ethnographic methods, her doctoral research examines the organizational and institutional conditions for the inclusion, or lack thereof, of women in emerging musical scenes. Thus, she bridges the complex and little-studied realities of music artisans and different sociological traditions: work, culture and gender.

While pursuing her professional musical career, Lysandre Champagne completed her Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Université du Québec à Montréal. Her thesis focused on gender relations in jazz improvisation. Since starting her PhD in 2018 under the supervision of Jan Doering, she now broadens the scope of her research to all emerging scenes in Montreal and their dynamics withinÌýthe music industry.
