** Admission to the M.Sc. (A.) in Couple and Family Therapy program is only available for the Fall term. Unfortunately, if an applicant selects a term other than Fall, the University will not refund application fees.Ìý

**The Â鶹ԼÅÄ School of Social Work does not accept Special Student Applications.

Application Procedures

1. Apply Online

Familiarize yourself with theÌýadmission requirementsÌý²¹²Ô»åÌýrequired supporting documentationÌýbefore completing the graduate online application.

  • You can stop and save your progress at any time. The application will only be processed once you have submitted.
  • Consult theÌýÌý²¹²Ô»åÌýÌýinstructional videos.
  • Once you have submitted your application an acknowledgement will be sent to the email address you have included in your application. You will be able to track your application status via the online application system

2. Submit Required DocumentsÌý

Applicants must upload all required documents with their application through . It is the applicant’s responsibility to verify on Slate that all supporting documents have been received. Applications with missing documents will not be considered.ÌýRefer to the guidelines on how to submit and upload documents /gradapplicants/how-apply/submit-your-application/documents.

3. Provide References

Applicants will be asked to identify three referees: one academic and two professional references from supervisors and, or employers who have directly witnessed the candidate's work within the field. You must provide a valid institutional email for each referee.

  • You must identify your referees who are familiar with your work and are willing to write letters of recommendation in the application portal. You must provide a valid institutional/organization e-mail address for each referee.
  • Each referee you identify on the application form will receive an automated email from the application portal (Â鶹ԼÅÄ) asking for a reference in support of your application for graduate studies.ÌýReferees will be invited to login to a secure portion of the Â鶹ԼÅÄ website where they can upload the letter(s) of reference and if applicable, complete some standardized questions.
  • In the event a referee may decline the request; you will be advised by email if your selected referee declines, and you will be asked to provide an alternate.
  • You will be able to make changes (in the application portal) such as updating email addresses and replacing referees or adding a new referee should one decline the reference request.
  • It is your responsibility to make sure your referees submit their letters of reference on time. In the application portal, you may 'Send a Reminder' to prompt them to complete the process. Alternatively, email them directly and politely remind them when the letter of recommendation is due.
  • When your referee submits their letter of recommendation, you will receive an automated email confirmation. Your application checklist will also be updated.

Letters must meet the following conditions:

  1. The program the student has applied to must be clearly indicated and the letter should include information that would aid an admissions committee in making an informed decision.
  2. Letters must be dated and not be more than 12 months old.
  3. The referee must indicate his/her position/title and full contact information at the institution/organization they work for.

Admission Review Process

Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of the following criteria:

  • academic performance (CGPA 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and higher);

  • relevant work experience within the field;

  • motivation for graduate study;

  • demonstrable interest in becoming a couple and family therapist by means of clinical experience and letter of intent;

  • evidence of commitment to working with families;

  • strong reference letters attesting the applicant's aptitude for working in a helping relation context with couples and families;

  • Clinical Skills Assessment

Clinical Skills Assessment

The Admissions Committee will invite selected applicants to participate in a Clinical Skills Assessment session. The format for this activity will be in a group setting and applicants will be evaluated by members of the Admissions Committee. The scheduled date is Friday, February 21, 2025.

Advanced Standing

Students who have completed the Master of Social Work (MSW) program at Â鶹ԼÅÄ, and successfully completed the exact five courses (SWRK 610, SWRK 622, SWRK 623, SWRK 630, and 1 approved complementary course) are entitled to have this coursework recognized for the M.Sc.(A.) in Couple and Family Therapy Program.ÌýÌý Eligible applicants will automatically be considered for Advanced Standing. Admission Decisions

By the 1st week of April 2025 candidates offered a potential spot in the program will receive by email a "Recommendation of Acceptance" sent to the email address they provided in the graduate studies online application.ÌýThis letter serves to inform the candidate that the Admissions Review Committee has agreed to recommend them into the program and that their application is being transmitted to Â鶹ԼÅÄ Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) for final review and acceptance.
