What We Do

The Office of Student Life and Learning's tasks can be broken down into four areas: leadership, support, communication, and advocacy.Ìý

Lead

  1. Manages SLL's large-scale philanthropic gifts
  2. Negotiates budget allocations for all SLL units with the central budget office
  3. Oversees hiring and performance evaluation of senior and executive directors in SLL
  4. Chairs important committees related to student life, programs and fees
  5. Manages the ongoing development of the Â鶹ԼÅÄ App

Ìý

Support

  1. Provides administrative, HR, financial, governance, and legal support to all SLL units
  2. Provides support to student societies, including managing business relationships with student associations, monitoring compliance with MOAs, responding to questions and requests, and overseeing and managing ententes regarding FIOs (i.e., ancillary fees)
  3. Manages legal contracts and requirements between student groups and external providers

Communicate

  1. FacilitatesÌýand encouragesÌýhonest communication between student leaders and university administration
  2. Communicates up-to-date information on SLL-wide issues, initiatives, and projects toÌýsenior administration, Graduate and Post Graduate Studies, Faculties, the Budget Office, University Advancement, Legal Counsel, Security, and Facilities
  3. Acts as the point of contact for the Senate and the Board of Governors for SLL

Advocate

  1. Raises the concerns of student groups to senior administration
  2. Initiates, supports, and facilitates initiatives that are student-led and student-focused
  3. Promotes student entrepreneurship in collaboration with the Dobson Cup (Faculty of Management),Ìýthe Dobson Centre for EntrepreneurshipÌýand the Vice-Principal, Research and International Relations

Â鶹ԼÅÄ is on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous peoples, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinabeg nations. We acknowledge and thank the diverse Indigenous peoples whose presence marks this territory on which peoples of the world now gather.
