Addressing Cardiovascular Risk Factors in Women: 听A One-Fits-All Approach?
One in three women die of ischemic heart disease or stroke. Yet most women remain unaware of the risks they face:听they听are under-diagnosed, under-treated and under-researched.
Overall Learning Objectives for the Activity:
To understand听the differences and similarities of cardiovascular disease听risk factors听between women and men听across the lifespan
Learning Objectives for Specific Sessions:
- Summarize the sex and gender differences in epidemiology and importance of cardiovascular disease听risk factors
- Outline a听sex specific approach to hypertension management听
- Identify the impact of diabetes on cardiovascular disease听risk in women
- Explain preconception cardiovascular disease听risk factor management听
- Relate sex specific differences in obesity and physical activity听
- Describe factors in early primary prevention in听women
- Illustrate听a patient centered approach in cardiovascular disease听primary prevention
